GMail mail notifier
I want to get notified, both in by a pop-up text & an audio alert, when a new mail hits my GMail inbox. Also I want to be able to customize the audio alert & the time interval to poll for the arrival of new mails. I have tried the following options till now.

  1. GMail notifier from Google - Newest version does't allow to change the audio alert or time interval.
  2. DynAdvance - Fails to connect to Gmail.
  3. Spiffy - Fails to connect to Gmail.
  4. Chrome gmail notification - Audio alert is not there, a known problem.
  5. GMail Notifier - Fails to connect to Gmail.
  6. Chrysanth Email Notifier - Not yet tested.
  7. Multi Email Notifier - Commercial product, not free
Also please note the following:

  1. I am running Windows XP SP3.
  2. My GMail account is HTTPs enabled.
  3. GMail has introduced a new feature called "Application Specific Password".
  4. I don't want to use any desktop mail client, e.g. Outlook, Thunderbird just to get notified about the arrival of new mail.
  5. I am also reluctant to use mail notification feature built into chat clients like GTalk, Digsby etc.
Any suggestions?

Solution which is working fine:
  1. POP Peeper - A customizable email notifier with a mini email client.

RE: GMail mail notifier
Why not try Thunderbird?

You can specify interval per account. It gives a audio alert (customizable) as well as a pop up. Can use SSL IMAP connection.

Ok, well I don't know of any programs that do this.

It is possible to make one using IMAP though. Do you program at all? I know there are IMAP libraries out there that make it real easy to do in C#/VB.Net

All the programs referred to in my first post work on the same principle. Don't know why they are failing. I can try to code one after this Feb 12.

I have a quick question, why do you need to be notified? I simply leave my Gmail page open and refresh it from time to time. I never miss anything. Also, all my emails redirect to my gmail account. I'm just curious as to why would you need a notifier.

RE: GMail mail notifier
There's a program I seen posted by someone else on another forum that they were using called POP Peeper: http://www.poppeeper.com/

Never used it before myself personally. Coming back to this thread though, that's the only one I know of as a notification program and not a client. I use Outlook.
