My internet
Is always so slow, compared to what speed tests show and what we "pay for"

Pay for 7-8mb/s down and 1mb/s up
Speedtest.net shows 5-6mb/s down and .7mb/s up

I normally experience .5mb/s down and .20 mb/s up

Any reason why? :\

RE: My internet
Well there could be a few reasons, some to do with your ISP, but I wouldn't be too worried about your Upload speed, as it's the download speeds that most everyone takes a notice to.

RE: My internet
My ISP is terrible (AT&T) but it beats the only other options in my area..

Though, why would speedtest.net show the speed im supposed to be getting, yet i only really get less than 1/4 of it.

RE: My internet
The figures are quite close. Pay for 8 mb/s and get 6 mbps. Are you actually downloading with 8 mb/s as real speed? No, you download with 0.5 mb/s (or 6/8*1024=768 kb/s). You should download with 8 divided by 8 equals aproximate 1 mb/s.

That is what ISP's always do, they trick you with mbps / mb/s conversion. And still they limit you more, so that is the maxim speed, you might be lucky to get it once.

For example, I pay for 50mbps download. Speedtest shows 36 on closer servers. That is on US servers:

But my real download speed is actually 36/8=4.5 mb/s, sometimes only 3 or 2. When as they says it should be 50/8=6.25 mb/s.

RE: My internet
For what we pay in the UK and you even get told it'll be between x and x, but it's still always less. Most the time you can't do anything about it really annoying how they get away with it.
