Getting in Shape
So. I'm fat. I need to get in shape.

Only 2 problems. Parents don't buy the most healthy food, and there is no gym near me.

So, I'm on my own.

Starting by cutting the pop, drinking powerade or gatorade instead.
No more doughnuts in the morning before school.
Eating less, no more eating until I am full. Just eat a bit.
Stop eating school lunches. If I eat lunch I'll eat a salad.
(I don't eat breakfast anyways, but maybe get some apples or something)
Going to start riding my bike 5 - 10 miles a day. (We have an awesome bike trail :) )

So. Suggestions? Is biking good enough to slim down? Maybe after that I'll start running or something.

After I slim down I want to kind of... "Tone". Maybe go for a 6 pack or something. Lol

But for now, my goal is to be "Slim"

Go from like 180 pounds that I am now to 150?

So, ideas? Suggestions?

RE: Getting in Shape
Well, I don't really know if it's up to the genes or not, but I eat a lot, I eat almost everything that's "not healthy" but taste AWESOME, I stopped doing extreme sports quite a while ago, which did actually keep me in Shape quite good.
What I'm trying to say, even if I don't do as much sport activities as I used to, but eat the same amount if not even bit more, I keep my average weight and Shape, could be cause of Genes but I'm really not sure about that...

I've never felt FAT in my entire Life, so it's more of a Mind State if you ask me...

Biking... Not really helpful as most think, same as Jogging/Running, you are burning calories correct, but not really building up Muscles, however, "Mountain Biking" on hard courses and "dangerous" ones, do a lot more to your Shape, Body and Muscles then everything else promoted as Good Fitness.

I can only recommend you to do activities which require you full body attention, for example mountain biking, since the course is all up's and down's, etc... you use your full muscle capacity to maintain control of the bike, thus training every single muscle of your Body.

The same applies to Paintball, though not as good as speeding downhill and trying not to hit a tree ;).

Basically as said, try to do things which require you to use your Hands, Feets, Mind, Fingers, etc...
Give it a few months and you should have a nice shape...

I have nowhere near here to go mountain biking. Nor can I afford paintball. Sometimes I airsoft but people don't like to do it much.. Maybe once every two weeks.

I like to ride ATVs but until I can afford a new one that is out of the question.

Mountain Biking is my personal choice, use your environment do things which you can when your Body will be reaching it's limits.
Parkour is quite good too, but this takes more time to produce awesome results, since you really need to train your head first...

Try drinking less. When you're under the influence, you tend to crave greasy foods. What's known as 'beer belly' isn't from beer at all. It's from the foods eaten while drinking.

RE: Getting in Shape
Ghoster. When I drink I shut myself up in my room.

But I want to stop drinking every weekend anyways. Being under 21, it gets expensive.

Over the past year I have been... "mildly" depressed. Didn't go outside, hangout with friends. Stayed home and browsed the internet, played xbox, and ate.

Gained went from 140 to 180 in... what seemed like a month, but was probably a few more than that.

My goal this summer is to get in shape, feel better about myself, and get a awesome, (maybe hot, hell who am I kidding, that wont happen lol) gf.

But anyways moral. I'll see what I can do about "offroad" biking, but the best I'll get for "mountain" biking is some ATV trails just outside of town that me and my friend ride on.

Well for one thing you shouldn't be not eating ever, including lunch. It causes your metabolism to slow. You should be eating at incremental periods throughout the day, about 12. For the three main courses you should always drink an entire cup of water about 15 minutes before eating. Also stay away from carbs during dinner, stay toward salads and greens during dinner and go for carbs during the morning. For the other little meals make it like a couple of grapes, a granola bar, celery, or just something small. If you really want to drop weight fast stick to frozen grapes and celery, they have literally 0 calories as as you eat them you burn the calories from the chewing.

Also for a workout, does your school have a gym (real gym not basketball, wrestling, ect)? Ask a teacher about some kind of physical regiment. Do some kind of cardio (if no gym then do biking), then muscle building. I usually do benching first, including some negatives to help tone. Then do what my teacher calls auxiliary workouts, which includes things like chest flies, lat pull downs, and squatting. Then finish the day with either a run or some good dead lifting. Though if you can't find a gym google some guides about how to use your own body mass as weights. Do some pushups during every commercial while watching TV.

I highly suggest looking for a sports team like wrestling and football. I personally did wrestling for a while and it really helps get your weight under control. Plus you HAVE to eat right to fit into your weight bracket, otherwise you are going to get beat every time as you will be facing heavy guys. Plus you do a lot of different work outs during training and it generally pretty fun.

It's a myth, RDCA.

To contribute to the thread: Predator, here are the three rules you should follow in order to lose weight. I've used it, and it's worked out great for me. It's been only a month and I've already lost 8 pounds.

- Workout 3 times a week with weights.
- Eat 1g protein / lb lean body mass.
- Reduce calories to lose 1-2 lbs / week.

Here's more info:

To keep count of the number of calories your consuming (which is probably the most important aspect of losing weight), download MyFitnessPal on your smartphone/tablet and record everything you eat. That way you're aware of what you're putting into your body.

RE: Getting in Shape
There are studies, anyone can compile a list of different studies with only one outcome, look at Fox News..

I am sure I can find plenty more. Also the funny part is, I was also told this by a person at a gym. A personal fitness trainer who is certified and teaches children. Either way I think it is more of a personal thing, the eating a little every once in a while works.

RE: Getting in Shape
As I read RDCA's first post, he almost said everything I would have.

m0ral, that dude brings up some points but it depends on who is talking. I honestly haven't done the research he has but like RDCA said, I'm sure I could fine plenty of studies that goes against a lot of what he said. Where he lost credit IMO is here:
Quote: Too long to explain, but saturated fats are not bad. Here is a long, detailed explanation of why.
Doubtful.

Anyways. I've always been able to eat what I felt. I've drank more than a lot of people can say and as of late (past couple of years) I haven't worked out for shizz. But, one thing I always do is: eat breakfast.

Breakfast is simply a meal that cannot be bypassed. Even if it IS a donut in the morning. It's better to eat a donut in the morning than no donut at all.

I fear I have m0ral's problem and no matter what I do I will never be a large dude. However, I've see small people blimp into big people. Therefore, I will forever eat breakfast. Try to work out. And if I can, refrain from eating before going to sleep.

I'm not a crazy scientist, but if I had the time, I'm sure I could find many threads that will tear that post up. I don't quite agree with a lot of it and was surprised to see so many people accept it. I bet 90% of them have been skinny their whole life and happen to fall into the criteria he presents. That'd be the only thing that convinces me.
