RE: Board level repair
So what are you replacing them with? Better quality than the cheap-o crap that they use?
Actually they look like that they go through the board. Sould be easy, just don't over-heat the board. Thoughts create realities. To be old and wise, You must first be young and stupid. Try to live an ordinary life, in a non-ordinary way. |

He's got a strong background in electronics Shintaro lol :) I could imagine you telling him this stuff is just routine for him. Any boards that I worked with when I used to do all that stuff, it's all the same, there's holes in the board and the actual connection path is on the underside of the board, where you solder everything :) I still have a million chips and LED's and transformers and all that stuff left over in my utility room. Oscilloscopes, fluke meters, everything. ![]() Microsoft MVP .NET Programming - (2012 - Present) ®Crestron DMC-T Certified Automation Programmer Development Site: aceinfinity.net |

It's a hobbie now, as boards are cheap enough to just replace, hardly worth getting the soldering iron out anymore. Thoughts create realities. To be old and wise, You must first be young and stupid. RE: Board level repair
Yes, mate, but people say all kinds of stuff all the time. We had an incident just like that recently.

RE: Board level repair
Well, from what he's said so far it seems legit :) I was in this level of work a while back and i've worked with other test engineers as well (employees of Nortel quite a few years ago, before they left Canada).

RE: Board level repair
Nortel! Really, what a horrible PABX.
I used to maintain option 11 and Option 61 for 6 years. Not to mention Call Pilot. Nortel was pulled apart and sold from memory? Thoughts create realities. To be old and wise, You must first be young and stupid. Try to live an ordinary life, in a non-ordinary way. |

No, it was the mother company in Canada for what they do before they decided to try and take on the world of fiber networking. They were so specialized in what they did, that when they tried to move over to fiber that's where I believe things fell apart. Horrible though? It was basically the best thing out at the time...

RE: Board level repair
Are you talking about Data? Synoptic was bought by Bay Networks who were bought by Nortel. God knows who own the Data arm now.
The Data side that Nortel built was quite good to work on. However the PBX side was a dinosaur that Nortel dragged their feet and was dying a slow death because they took too long to change to IP. I remember cursing the lame IP card in a remote cabinet hanging off a Option 11 trying to keep i2002 and i2004's working. If any other traffic was on its VLan it had a hissy fit and crashed. And yes I did apply patch after patch, was the patch in? pins? patch out?? poos?? for thorsgr8? All those LD commands at the chevron prompt and acronyms Grrrrrr. Not to mention the amount of space the Option 61 required. I did dabble in Symposium call centre. Awful. I must admit Call Pilot was ahead of its time, but again they didn't do anything with it. It stayed on Win NT and never moved all the while teatherd to the Option 61c. I think Avaya bought the PBX arm and are phasing the Nortel stuff out. Thoughts create realities.
