Games on Linux
What kind of games can you play on Linux?
It's more stable than Windows (I compare it to Windows because it's still the most popular OS), it's free, yet I haven't heard about great games designed for Linux.

Why is that?

RE: Games on Linux
Windows is much better for gaming, Linux isn't as developed in that field. I don't know lots about Linux but I've heard this from many people including Linux users. All the games that you buy off the shelf are for the most part all DirectX, which has really been developed over the years. We're at DirectX11 I believe, and I actually was just exploring the new SDK this past week and examples in C++ from MSDN actually.

Great games Meaning fun games or good quality rendered games and all of that?

cheers

RE: Games on Linux
My favorite game of all time is "Starcraft" from 1998. This was originally for Windows but I was lucky to get it running on Linux using WINE.

For Linux alone, I have no favorite games.. :(

If you have an nvidia video card, you're lucky. It depends on drivers and what linux distro do you have and how advanced you're with it.

So ... http://store.steampowered.com/browse/linux/ ?

If it works on a mac, surely will run on linux, too. That's if they (developers) want to and have time to recompile!

Cool link Florin :)

Get Amnesia: The Dark Descent, it's a great game in my opinion. I also like the BioShock series, nothing better than a scary, but strange reality. I love the way they approach the uniqueness, as it makes for an entirely new and exciting game experience.

RE: Games on Linux
I'd honestly think Linux would be a more popular option since it's less resource-intensive than windows.

The new SteamBox is going to run some form of Linux distro, so I'd expect most new steamgames to be linux compatable in the near future, for sure all of the new valve games.

Less resource-intensive is not a measurement of the quality of experience you'll receive unless the standards are the same. Windows 95 would use less resources than Windows 7 for example, but the difference is that Windows 7 is much more evolved. Same principle with Windows and Linux in the graphics/gaming field.

I meant 'fun' games, Ace. Would you ever play a boring game just because it has great graphics? BigGrin I know for sure I wouldn't.

So, in conclusion, who loves games should stick to Windows NormalSmile
