Running Bash on Ubuntu on Windows
First off, the most important thing to understand here is that the bash instance is not running within a VM on Windows, and it is Windows that is running an ELF 64-bit binary in this demonstration:

Over some testing, you can apt-get gcc/g++ and create ELF binaries and even run them from Windows. :) I no longer need to boot a Linux VM to test unix-specific code (for the most part).
